Arthur BYRNES Obituary
BYRNES Arthur Eugene, 88, Cincinnati, born January 10, 1919, and entered into heaven June 26, 2007. He was a devoted and loving husband of 60 years to his wife, Dorothy, who passed away February 13, 2007. Art was born in Savannah, GA at the family home. In 1941, Art was hired by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and moved to Washington, D.C. after completing two years at Armstrong College. In 1944, he enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Europe during the end of World War II. He was discharged from the Army on July 25, 1946 and returned to work for the FBI. On September 5, 1946, Art married Dorothy Reddon in her hometown of Blue Hill, NE. His position with the FBI required his family to move around the Midwest and Eastern United States. After graduating from the University of Detroit with a degree in accounting, in 1954, he was promoted as a Special Agent of the FBI. In 1963, Art and his family finally settled in Cincinnati. In 1976, after 35 years of service with the federal government, Art retired from the FBI. Art was lovingly committed to his family and proud of his service to the government of the United States. Art taught his children, who all graduated from college, and his grandchildren, the importance of education and hard work. In addition to enjoying spending time with family and friends, after retirement, Art continued to remain active with the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and enjoyed reading, golf, and travel. Survived by his six children, Mike (Linda), John (Leslie), Jim (Pat), Ann, Beth (Bart Faber) Byrnes, and Ceil (Mike) Bradford; grandchildren, Katie Byrnes, Celia (Tim) Grebs, Maggie and Mollie Byrnes, Matt, Mark, and Greg Byrnes, Chris (Christina) Nicholson, Bryce Faber, Ellie, Emma, Morgan, and Jack Bradford; great granddaughter, Kaylee Nicholson; three sisters, Sister Mary Felice Byrnes, R.S.M., Mary Walton, and Louise Bailey; and many nieces, nephews, and friends ac! ross the country. Preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, their baby daughter, Mary; his parents, Joseph and Elizabeth; brother and his wife, Joseph and Margaret Byrnes; and in-laws, Bernard (Selma) and James Reddon, Mary (Roy) Winters, Agnes (Walt) Meves, Eleanor Reinmiller, Kathryn (Bill) Mummy, Robert Walton, and Bill Bailey. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Guardian Angels Church, 6531 Beechmont Ave., Monday, July 2, 2007 at 10 A.M. Friends may call at the church from 9 A.M. until time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) - Bryce Faber Neuroblastoma Research Fund, care of MSKCC, 1275 York Avenue, New York, NY 10021.
