Jacqueline Maria Sluder Ivey

Leicester - Jacqueline Maria Sluder Ivey, age 59, of 1 Printers Lane, died Wednesday, April 17, 2013.

Jacqueline was born May 26, 1953, in Buncombe County where she had lived most of her life. She was the first female deputy patrol officer in North Carolina. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Black Mountain. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Gladys Hargus Sluder; and husband, Mark Edward Ivey who died in 2011.

Surviving are her daughters, Jennifer Reeves and husband Paul, and Mary Hensley, all of Leicester; son, Shane Hensley and wife Robin of Texas; stepdaughter, Ashley Ivey Bartlett and husband Kevin, and stepson, Jonathan Ivey, all of Black Mountain; sisters, Karen Sluder Buckner and husband Tommy of Leicester, and Melissa Sluder of Arden; brothers, Mike Sluder of Leicester and Kenny Sluder of Georgia; grandchildren, Kalen, Paul Jr., Kristian, Jonah, and Autumn; step-grandchildren, Kobe and Addison.

Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 22, 2013, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Dr. David Rayburn officiating. Burial will be in Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 on Monday at the funeral home.

I am sorry that I did not try and spend more time with my cousin Jacqueline. I guess we just get so caught up in our own lives. I loved her personality and laughter. She was a beautiful person and will truly be missed. God Bless her family.
