Charles Metcalf
Candler - Charles Cleveland "Shorty" Metcalf, age 82, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 after an extended illness.
He was born in Asheville but grew up in Madison County and was the son of the late Tildon Jerome and Ora Lee Ball Metcalf.
Charles was employed at the American Enka Corporation for 30 years as Foreman in the Shipping Department, was a member of Bent Creek Baptist Church and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
Charles is survived by his loving wife and caregiver, Alma Silver Metcalf of the home; son, Randall Charles Metcalf and wife Robbie of Candler; daughters, Sharon Doty and husband Paul of Asheville and Lisa Towe and husband Rick of Candler; grandchildren, David, Katie, Landon, Kelly, Justin, Tiffany, Alyssa and Blake; great grandson, Gavin; sister, Louise Whiteside of Asheville and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, July 6, 2013 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. J.P. Branham and Mr. Randall C. Metcalf officiating.
Burial will follow in Pisgah View Memorial Park with military honors conducted by the NC National Guard Honor Team.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:45 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
