Doris S. Rice
Asheville - Doris Elizabeth Sheppard Rice, 88, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Stone Creek Nursing Home.
A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she retired in mid 1980's from the National Climatic Data Center, was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church and College of Regents-WOTM Chapter #179.
Mrs. Rice was the daughter of the late Talmadge Eugene Sheppard and Bertha Louise McElreath Sheppard and wife of Lawrence Owen "Twig" Rice who died January 2, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Alan Joyner.
Surviving are her daughter, Sharon Joyner of Alexander; sons, David Rice and wife Cindy of Weaverville and Tommy Rice and wife Virginia of Asheville; 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, March 19, 2013 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Jim McCoy and Rev. Weldon Ramsey officiating.
Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 AM Tuesday at the funeral home.
