Judith Anne Pless Lathrop

Asheville - Judith Anne Pless Lathrop, 55, of Asheville, died Monday, August 19, 2013. Born in Jackson County, she lived the majority of her life in Buncombe County. Judy was the daughter of Marjorie Anne Pless and the late Francis Llamar Pless. She received a bachelor's degree in nursing from Western Carolina University and worked for over 30 years in local area hospitals. Her favorite pastimes included gardening, caring for others, spending time with family, singing, and volunteering for CarePartners Hospice in Asheville, North Carolina. Judy was a teacher of compassion, loved by many for her colorful character, sense of humor and dedication. Her animals, especially the dogs, adored her due to her unconditional love for them. She is survived by her loving husband of 23 years, Gregory Marsh Lathrop; mother, Marjorie Anne Pless; brother, David Llamar Pless; and step-children, Lance Gregory Lathrop and Vanessa Leigh Lathrop. A memorial service will be held 6 PM, Friday, September 6, at Covenant Community Church, where she was a member. Judy was a very special person. The kindness she showed to others is her legacy. That legacy will continue for years in the hearts of the people she touched. Judy's love for the Lord showed in all she did. We will meet again one day!!

I will never forget the love and support Judy gave me after my daughter died. I was really grieving badly and it affected my work performance. Instead of her giving me the boot she prayed with and for me. She got me the counseling i needed through a devastating moment in my life. Her love, support and leadership gave me the support i needed to move forward. I am a better nurse because of this wonderful beloved child of God. I celebrate your life Judy and after the service last night i will raise my arms to heaven. God thank you for sharing your beloved child. Love Nurse Ryan. P.s. give my daughter kisses

Dear Greg and all of Judy's family members, I was so sorry to hear of Judy's passing. I only got to see Judy at our ACR class reunions over the years but she was one of those people who you sought out just to speak to her and get a fabulous smile and hug from. We who were blessed to have known Judy will surely miss her and always remember her. God bless all of you now and in the difficult days to come. May He wrap His loving arms around you and give you peace. Judy is not gone...just waiting to see you again.

To the Lathrop&Pless Family,
Our loss is Heaven's gain.Judy was a special gift from God, and lived out her faith as she walked through our Christian journey. She thanked God every morning for another beautiful day, she recently told me when we ran into each other in Asheville. She was such a delightful, unique, outgoing person whom I enjoyed growing up with at Beverly Hills. May the families know that we lift you up in prayer, and ask God to give you strength in the days ahead. With deepest sympathy, Dave & Judy

Dear Greg, Mrs Pless and David,
I was so sorry to hear of Judy's passing; please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. Judy was always such a thoughtful and caring person. She always put others ahead of herself and this was so fitting for her as a Christian and in her profession as a nurse. My thoughts of our childhood with the many kids that went to Groce Methodist MYF would not be complete without Judy. Judy was truly a wonderful and loving person, and our lives are much richer for having known her.

I was so saddened to hear of Judy's passing, I worked with Anne & Francis in Scouts when my children were in Scouts, and worked with Judy at Transylvania Community Hospital when I was Volunteer Director there, she was very professional in her work and demeanor, she helped me many many times in my work. Always agreeable, a helping and caring person truly comfortable in her own skin and with others. My heart goes out to you in your pain, remember, The gift of time we cherish--The gift of life goes fast--but the gift of love will NEVER end as long as Memories last. She will always be remembered.

"A life well-lived doesn't end any more than music ends; it echos through time with whispers of beauty and grace." You will always hear Judith's encore within your hearts. Judith sounds like she personified the words Love and Friendship. I only met you once Greg but after meeting you once you left a beautiful impression on my soul. I am so sorry for your loss, you will be in my thoughts in the days ahead.

I will never forget Judy's love of life, compassion and ease with everyone she came in contact with. Judy touched so many lives - I will miss seeing her poking around in the garden, sharing its bounty and waving as we ride by. Every time I see a flower or pet a dog or cat, or work with a caring nurse focusing on a patient, Judy's special gifts will come to mind. She made the world better - and loved deeply; what a legacy. She couldn't have had a more ideal partner in her journey, Gregg. She spoke of you with such deep respect and affection. When the traffic in your yard slows down, Bob & I will be here for you, meanwhile, know you're in our thoughts and we're keeping our eyes on you from across the way. If you need anything, we're only a phone call away.

Although I hadn't seen Judy since we were kids, I will always remember the sparkle in her eyes. Sleepovers when we were in Haw Creek, meeting on the golf course to ride bikes, and so many classes we shared while at Reynolds. She made geometry bearable. Judy was so quick witted, upbeat, and always had a smile that could light up a room. My deepest sympathy to her family.

As one of Judy's former teacher's at A.C.Reynolds I share your sorrow. Her sparkling personality made her a joy to be around.

As a fellow believer in Jesus Christ, I too realize this sorrow is only temporary. Judy has simply "GRADUATED" from this world to the next.

In Thessalonians 4 we read - " And now, brothers and sisters, I want you to know what will happen to the Christians who have died so you will not be full of sorrow like people who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus comes, God will bring back with Jesus all the Christians who have died.I can tell you this directly from the Lord: We who are still living when the Lord returns will not rise to meet him ahead of those who are in their graves. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the call of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, all the Christians who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and remain with him forever.

So comfort and encourage each other with these words.

I know your loss is great, as it should be but knowing Judy she is working hard in her new home, doing those little things that uniquely expressed her love to each of us and her beloved pets until that day when we too join her for ever and ever and ever more !
