Frank M. Hughes

Charlotte, NC - Frank M. Hughes, 66, of Charlotte, N.C., passed away on Friday, July 26, 2013. Frank was born in Erie, PA., on October 18, 1946, and grew up at Lake Pleasant. A graduate of Saint Boniface Elementary School and Cathedral Preparatory High School, he went on to graduate from Pennsylvania's Edinboro State University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree and a teaching certificate in K-12 Art Education. Frank pursued continuing education classes in the arts and remained an active artist in the areas of drawing and water color throughout his lifetime.

He started his career as a school teacher, and spent four years teaching grades 4 - 6 at Saint Sylvester School in Pittsburgh and Saint Patrick School in Franklin, Pennsylvania.

After his tenure as a teacher, Frank entered into private enterprise when he took a job with General Nutrition Corporation, becoming a supervisor in the manufacturing, processing and distribution in the health food industry.

After an early retirement from General Nutrition Corporation he ventured into the floral manufacturing industry where he worked as a manager at Plantscapes, Inc., in Pittsburgh. This work included production of silk plants and custom Christmas décor. Frank relocated to Charlotte, N.C., with the business. He moved on to another firm, Sedgefield Interior Landscapes doing similar work and finished his career at A & B Floral.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents Francis J. and Florence Hughes of Greer, South Carolina. He is survived by his brother George and his wife Mary Francis of Largo, MD.; brother John and wife Pamela of Fletcher, N.C.; and sister Kathy Hughes of Greer, S.C.; as well as two nephews, three nieces, three great-nieces, and several cousins.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 26 at Saint Barnabas Catholic Church in Arden, N.C. The Rite of Committal will take place at a later date in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Memorials may be made to McCall Hospice, 1836 W. Georgia Rd., Simpsonville, S.C. 29680 or to Saint Barnabas Catholic Church, 109 Crescent Hill Drive, P.O. Box 39, Arden, N.C. 28704.
