DEVUE HALL
HARRIS
MARION - Devue Hall Harris, age 84, of the Montford Cove Community in Marion, NC went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday morning, January 13, 2013 following a brief illness. She was born on February 11, 1928 in Marion, NC to the late Cleveland Hall and Belle Morgan Hall. She was the widow of Clarence A. Harris who died in 1975. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles D. Hall, Rev. Millard F. Hall and Wayne C. Hall; three sisters, Clara Hall Greene, Jeanette Hall Davis and Faye Hall Marlowe; and her son-in-law, Vann E. Wall. Devue was a loving mother, nana, sister, aunt and friend.
Devue spent her childhood years in the East Marion Community. She attended East Marion Elementary and Marion High School. She also worked in textiles at Marion Manufacturing. After marrying Clarence A. Harris in 1946, she moved to the Montford Cove Community where she spent the remainder of her years. She also worked at C.P. Clare in Asheville. She would later work at Baxter Healthcare until she retired in 1990. Devue was an active member of Montford Cove Baptist Church and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class.
Devue loved spending time with her family, especially yearly vacations in Gatlinburg. She loved working in her yard and flowers, cooking and sewing. She particularly loved taking family pictures where four generations were represented. Her greatest joy, however, was her great grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Linda Harris Wall of Marion; grandson, Chad Wall and wife, Kate, of Union Mills; granddaughter, Heather Wall Thompson and husband, Chris, of Marion; five great grandchildren, Malarie and Micajah Wall, Makenzie, Mason and Madelyn Thompson; one sister, Margaret Hall Toney of Salisbury; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Emma Harris Davis of Rutherfordton. A number of cousins and a host of friends also survive.
The family will receive friends at Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Montford Cove Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Jerry Campbell officiating. The body will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will take place in the Montford Cove Baptist Church Cemetery.
