Morris Cole


LEICESTER - Morris Cole, affectionately known as "Whimp," 92, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2013 at Aston Park Health Care Center.

A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late George and Lillie Ramsey Cole. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Roberts Cole, who died in 2010.

Mr. Cole worked as a bus driver and later retired from American Enka after 20 years. Mr. Cole was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and earned the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his service.

He is survived by his son, Leslie Cole and wife Nancy of Greenville, SC; grandson, Chris Cole; granddaughter, Kathryn Cole Ferguson; and two great-grandchildren, Jake Massey and Ashtyn Cole of Charlotte.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with the Rev. Charles Phillips officiating. Interment will follow at Episcopal Cemetery.

His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Aston Park Health Care Center, and in particular Missy, for their care and compassion for Mr. Cole.
