Bobby Lee Bowens

Asheville - Bobby Lee Bowens, Sr., 76, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2018, at his home.

Bobby was a native of Bryson City, NC, and moved to Asheville as a young adult. He was the son of the late Willie Bowens, Sr., and Annie Powell Bowens. Bobby is a graduate of Reynolds High School, an all black high school formerly in Haywood County, NC. Bobby was the first black fireman in the city of Asheville. He also retired from Norfolk Southern Railway after being a faithful employee for decades. Through Bobby's desire to serve children, he drove a Buncombe County School bus for many years until his recent death. Bobby was a dedicated member of Tried Missionary Baptist Church in Asheville.

Bobby was united in marriage to Sainte Ola Mapp and from this union they had three children: Shondria L. Bowens (deceased), Bobby Bowens, Jr. (deceased) and ShaDonna B. Stubbs (Pete) of Richmond, VA.

Including his two children and parents, Bobby was preceded in death by brothers: Willie Bowens, Sr., Milton R. Bowens, and Pervis D. Bowens.

In addition to his loving daughter, ShaDonna B. Stubbs (Pete), the family left to cherish his memory include grandchildren, Ravyn Anderson (JC), Dorez Bowens, David and Christopher McDowell and Micah Stubbs; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Harold Bowens, Charles Bowens, Edward Bowens (Louise); sisters; Linda Jones, and Andrea Purcell (Wayne); nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Bobby gave his life to the Lord many years ago and is now resting from his labors in the presence of God. The family wishes to thank all who played an inspiring role in his life. Especially, his pastor Elder Alfred Blount and wife Regina and the entire Tried Missionary Baptist Church Family.

Following his wishes there will be no official service, cards of sympathy may be mailed to ShaDonna Stubbs, 1705 Alyssalaine Pl., Richmond VA, 23231. The family requests that everyone remember him by serving God and our fellow man.
