Garnett Davis Obituary

ASHEVILLE - Garnett N. Davis went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 8th. He was the son of the late Robert N. Davis and Sadie Mize Davis of Chattanooga, Tennessee. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railway in 1987 after 32 years of service. Garnett served as the District Sales Manager in Asheville, NC the last 12 years of his career.

Garnett was a veteran of the US Army, serving from 1947 until 1954. During his advance to the rank of Captain, he served as a forward observer and air observer directing artillery fire during the Korean conflict. Military metals awarded include WW II Victory Metal, United Nations with 4 battle stars, Air Metal with 4 oak leaf clusters and the good conduct metal. He was serving with the National Security Agency, Washington, D.C. when discharged from service in 1953.

Garnett was an active and faithful church member. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Norma McLain Davis; son, Garnett Davis II and wife, Doreen; and granddaughter, Courtney of Magnolia Texas; son, Stewart Davis; son, Dan Davis and wife, Jenny, and two grandsons, Noah and Nick.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday April 11 at New Morgan Hill Baptist Church located at 370 Lake Drive, Biltmore Lake, NC 28715. A reception will follow the service at the church.
