MILLS RIVER - Helen Kimzey Evans, 94, of Mills River, died on Monday, November 5, 2012 at The Haven in the Village at Carolina Place. She was born on October 19, 1918 in Mills River, N.C. to the late Daniel L. Kimzey and Ellen Corpening Kimzey. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Floyd Evans, a brother, Albert Kimzey, and her sister Carolyn Kimzey.

Helen was a life long resident of Mills River, N.C. until her health declined and she then moved to The Haven in Pineville, N.C. She graduated from Blanton's (formerly Cecil's) business school in Asheville, N.C. She worked as a secretary at Olin Corporation for many years, and then as a receptionist for Dr. H.B. Norton for over 20 years. She was a life long member of Mills River Presbyterian Church where she served as treasurer for 42 years. During her active membership she served on the board of Deacons, taught Sunday school and sang alto in the church choir. She was active in the Presbyterian Women's Association and received an honorary life membership award in 2004. Helen loved gardening, music, the Blue Ridge Mountains and spending time with her family and friends. She was a wonderful cook and seamstress. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy.

Helen is survived by her three daughters, Nancy Vaeth and her husband, John, of Slidell, La., Robin Essex and her husband, Walter, of Gastonia, N.C., and Janie Jackson and her husband, Leland, of Belmont, N.C.; three granddaughters, Jessica Vaeth, Jennifer Jackson, and Catherine Jackson; one great grandchild, Dean Watts; and a sister in law, Roberta Lowe.

A visitation will be held on Thursday November 8, 2012 from 6 to 8 P.M. at Mills River Presbyterian Church, 10 Presbyterian Church Rd, Mills River, NC 28759. A graveside service will be held at 1 P.M. on Friday November 9, 2012 at Mills River Presbyterian Church Cemetery with the Rev. Randall Boggs officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in memory of Helen to Mills River Recreation Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 111, Horse Shoe, NC 28742.
