James Brotherton Obituary


Swannanoa - James Stewart Brotherton, 92, of Swannanoa, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2013.

Mr. Brotherton was born February 5, 1921 in Tennessee to the late Henry and Eva Oates Brotherton.

James was a Deacon and Sunday School teacher with Calvary Free Will Baptist Church for 42 years. He also was a veteran of the United States Navy. James retired from Beacon Manufacturing Company after 40 years of service. He was a good husband and provided well for his family.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Brotherton; and sisters, Molly Ledford and Flora Perkins.

James is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Margaret Brotherton; his children, Geneva Bartlett (and her husband, Syd), Earl Brotherton (and his wife, Mary Lou), Lois Jones (and her husband, Bob), and Lee Brotherton (and his wife, Teri); six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, August 5, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Calvary Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Frank Cantrell officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.

Arrangements are in the care of Harwood Home for Funerals.
