John Bennett Bailey M.D. Obituary
John Bennett Bailey, MD

Asheville - Surrounded by love and his devoted family, John Bennett Bailey, MD, affectionately known as 'Dr. Ben', 69, of Asheville passed from this life at his home on Monday, January 29, 2018.

Dr. Bailey is survived by the love of his life, June Craft Bailey, and his children, Elizabeth Claire Bailey, Andrew Bennett Bailey, and John Bennett Bailey Jr. (Jen); a sister, Patricia Lynn Bailey; and loyal puppies, Harper & Jackson. A native of Nacogdoches, TX, Dr. Bailey was the son of the late John Lynn and Patsy Nance Bailey.

He was a leader in the medical community, practicing for nearly 30 years. He founded Mountain Area Pediatric Associates and mentored decades of Family Practice Residents and young Pediatricians. In other roles, Ben served on the board of the hospital, as well as numerous hospital and community committees.

Ben's most cherished professional role was as a beloved pediatrician, giving selflessly of his time and talents to care for thousands of children in Western NC. Ben was an astute clinician, but his patients will remember him most for the time and personalized care that he gave to each one of them, at every visit. He was loved and admired by his patients, their families, his colleagues, friends, and his family. As a husband, father, friend, and doctor, he exemplified unconditional love, kindness, compassion, and grace of the human spirit. His legacy is enormous in both the public sphere that he occupied as the consummate pediatrician but also as a husband and father who built incredibly strong bonds of love in his family. His strength and spirit were larger than life; we all feel lucky to have shared in his love. Let us all keep it going.

The family is planning a celebration of his life in Asheville in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Dr. Ben Bailey Fund to Feed Hungry Children, to help make sure that no child in our community goes to bed hungry.
