Asheville - Josie Banks Young, 93, of 31 Elizabeth Place, Asheville, passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at Elderberry Health Care in Marshall.

She was born August 9, 1924 in Madison County to her late parents Hezikiah and Elizabeth Shelton Banks. Josie was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. She was a homemaker, and loved gardening, canning, baking, beautiful flowers, fishing, taking walks and talking to her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 21 years, Hardwick J. Ledford; husband of 40 years, Robert Val Young; granddaughter, Michelle Fox; three brothers and three sisters.

She is survived by her daughters, Lucille Baker, and her husband, Kenneth of Waldorf, MD and Miriam Round and her husband, Ralph of Upper Marlboro, MD; grandsons, Kenneth Brian Baker of Waldorf, MD and Gary Ledford of Asheville; sister, Roxie Franklin and husband, Jancer of Marshall; several special nieces and nephews; and many friends.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 13, 2018, at Madison Funeral Services. Interment will follow at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. on Monday, prior to the service.

The family would like to give special recognition to her three nieces, Brenda Lowe, Elizabeth Owen and Margaret Freeman, special friends, Meredith McIntosh, Irene Snelson, Melba Baker and Carol Rice, and the staff of Madison Home Care and Hospice and the Elderberry Health Care Facility for all the love and care they gave Josie.
