Lewis Charles Metcalf

Swannanoa - Lewis Charles Metcalf, 92, died Monday, September 9, 2013 at CarePartners Hospice in Asheville, NC. He was born April 17, 1921 and the son of KD and Hattie Metcalf.

He was Choir Director at Swannanoa Free Will Baptist Church for over 30 years. He retired from Westinghouse. He was a member of Meadowbrook Free Will Baptist Church, Black Mountain when he died.

His wife, Virginia Woody Metcalf preceded him in death in 1999. His son, Bill Metcalf of Swannanoa preceded him in death in 2008.

Brothers Glenn, Bob, Byrd and sisters, Frona, Mary, Martha, Axie and Addis preceded him in death.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Don and Sharon Metcalf of Hickory, NC; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Eddie Swann of Mills River, NC; and daughter-in-law, Joyce Metcalf of Swannanoa, NC; 8 grandchildren, Pam, Robin, Angie, Chuck, Amy, Woody, Wes and Matt; 18 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and his dearest friend, Genevieve Robertson.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, September 12, 2013 at 11:00 am at Sky View Memorial Park in Oteen.

A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 6:00 pm at Meadowbrook Free Will Baptist Church with the Reverends Randy Stone and Milton Hollifield, Sr. officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
