Although I did not personally know Miss Mary, I spoke with her a time or two on the phone after I became Regent of our DAR Chapter. I found her to be a lovely, cultured lady with a sweet voice! I am happy that I could know her in this way. May she rest in peace. Sharon Byers Conner, Regent Ruth Davidson NSDAR Chapter, Asheville, NC

Dear family of Mary Smith,
She was the very best Home Economics teacher anywhere!!
I had her in class at West Buncombe High School in 1954-55, before we consolidated to Erwin!! She took several of us girls to White Lake in our Sophomore year. One funny thing happened on that trip!!:))
We were going through Wilmington. People were blowing their car horns, waving and moving out of our way! We girls thought they were flirting with us!! So we waved back to them!!! All of a sudden, we saw a sign: Wrong Way!!! We yelled to Mrs. Smith, “we’re Going the Wrong Way!! She quickly pulled off the road and got turned around!! We really had fun on that trip!!
Mrs Smith even came out to my house to teach me how to put in a zipper to a skirt. I had all kinds of problems with that zipper, but she was infinitely patient!!
What wonderful memories of a dear, dear teacher!!
Cherish the memories you made with her.
May God give you His Peace And Comfort!
Much love in Christ,
