Ronald Roby

Fairview - Ronald Haury Roby, 81, of Fairview passed away on Monday, July 24, 2017 at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville, NC. A native of Chicago, IL, he was a son of the late Frank and Ruth Haury Roby. He was an alumnus of the University of Florida class of 1962 where he received a B.S. in Real Estate, the University of Miami class of 1966 where he received his JD in Law, and Rollins College class of 1981 where he received his MSM in Accounting. From 1954 until 1962 he proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and later in the Navy Reserves. In Orange County, FL, he served as an attorney for almost 50 years before moving to the Asheville area. He was a member for 35 years of Trinity Lutheran Church in Orlando, FL where he and his wife, Susan, taught adult Bible study for 26 of those years. When they moved to Fairview, NC, they became active members of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Asheville. While in Orlando he also served for 20 years on the Board of Directors of the Lutheran Haven Retirement Facility in Oviedo, FL, and was a colonel in the Orlando Jaycees.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Gene Roby.

Surviving are his loving spouse of 55 years, Susan Jean Roby; children: Karen Roby and her spouse, Fred Winterkamp, of Orlando, FL, Matthew Roby of Winter Park, FL, and Linda Ciampoli and her spouse, Carlo, of Boulder, CO; siblings, Loren Roby and his spouse, Bonnie, of Orlando, FL, and Lee Roby of Palm Coast, FL; grandchildren: Erick Winterkamp, Lillian, Madeleine, and Vivian Roby, and Leo Kai Ciampoli, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Asheville with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his honor to either Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 51 Wilburn Place, Asheville, NC 28806, or Hearts for Families Fund at Lutheran Counseling Services, 1515 Orchid Drive, Winter Park, FL 32789.
