In 1995 they moved to North Carolina, residing on Doggett Mountain in Madison County until 2004 when they built a home in Swannanoa. Bill was active in the Hendersonville Film Society and North Carolina Stage Company in Asheville.

He is survived by his wife, Aline; brother, Richard; a sister, Carol Parshall; and a niece and nephew, Julia and Jonathan Parshall.
