Edna L. Waldroup

Spruce Pine - Edna L. Gillespie Waldroup, age 93, of Spruce Pine formally of Hot Springs went home to be with the Lord on September 25, 2015.

Edna was born on October 17, 1921 in Madison County. She was the daughter of Danny and Eulala Gillespie. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd W. Waldroup; five brothers, Earnest, Hubert, Elmer, Owen, and Earn Gillepsie; grandson, Dr. Michael Waldroup; daughter in law, Doris Waldroup. Edna was a lifelong member of Zion Baptist Church in Hot Springs.

Mrs. Waldroup and her husband Floyd were honored and received proclamation from the World Wide Marriage Encounter as being the "Longest Married Couple" in the State of North Carolina of 74 years on February 2011. She retired from Burlington Industries. Edna was very active in her Church where she served as Church Secretary and Sunday School Teacher for many years. She loved her Lord, her family, her Church and her friends. She enjoyed quilting, crafts, sewing, ceramics, gardening, and flowers.

Mrs. Waldroup is survived by two sons, Reverend Roy Waldroup and wife Sandra of Fletcher, NC and Don Waldroup of Spruce Pine; grandsons, Ken Waldroup and wife Trish, Reverend Darrin Waldroup and wife Jeanna of Spruce Pine; great grandchildren, Laura Verla and husband Dr. Thomas Verla, Shelby and Luke Waldroup of Spruce Pine; Adam Waldroup and fiancé Maggi Fincher of Marion; Troy and Zack Waldroup of Hendersonville; brother, Warren Gillespie of Alexander.

The funeral for Mrs. Edna Waldroup will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, September 28, 2015 in the Chapel of Madison Funeral Home in Marshall, NC with the Reverends Roy Waldroup and Darrin Waldroup officiating. Interment will follow in the Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 1:00 P.M. - 2:00 P.M. Monday prior to the service at Madison Funeral Home.
