Rita C. Loftus Obituary
Rita C. Loftus, 80, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2019, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Twp.

She was born July 28, 1938, in Wilkes-Barre, a daughter of the late John and Elinor Davis Toole.

She was a graduate of Coughlin High School and received a bachelor's degree in English from College Misericordia. She later received a teaching certificate and was a teacher for St. Jude's School, Mountain Top, and later for the Wilkes-Barre Area School District. Mrs. Loftus taught in the Dodson and Palmer Schools and also taught math at Kistler Elementary School.

A member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Wilkes-Barre, she also belonged to the Wyoming Valley Women's Club.

She loved gardening, reading, books and spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter, Marissa. She and her late husband liked taking trips to the shore, visiting Amish country and going to local restaurants.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Loftus; son, Christopher; brother, James Toole; and sisters, Marcella Barna and Evelyn.

Surviving are her sons, Dr. John A. Loftus, Edwardsville; Patrick J. Loftus, Harrisburg; granddaughter, Marissa Loftus; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Church of the Immaculate Conception. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Hanover Twp.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
