David Victor Martini Obituary

David Victor Martini, 69, of Shickshinny, died peacefully Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at his home, after a long battle with cancer.

David was born April 23, 1951, in Shickshinny, a son of the late Victor J. and Marion Hoffman Martini.

Dave graduated from Northwest Area High School, 1969, and attended Wilkes University. Dave was employed by the DCNR at Frances Slocum State Park and retired after over 30 years of service. Dave was also part owner of Martini's Café, Shickshinny.

Throughout his high school career, Dave was an exceptional athlete and excelled in track and physical fitness. Dave was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping. Growing up along the river provided Dave with the opportunity to learn everything he could from the "Mighty Susquehanna." In his teens, Dave could often be found along the banks working on "the Shack," as many of his friends will remember. Dave did not simply enjoy the outdoors; he had a way of connecting with nature. Even while Dave was fighting cancer, he could still be found out on his boat, fishing and simply enjoying the beauty of this world. Dave was also a very talented wood worker. He spent countless hours remodeling his home and refinishing furniture in his basement shop. And although his outdoor space was limited, Dave had a bountiful garden that was envied by many. Dave was a man of few words, but those who knew him would say he was a great friend who was always a pleasure to be around. He will be greatly missed.

In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Martini; and wife, Kim Martini, whom he married March 30, 2007.

Surviving are his sister, Paula Martini Summers, Shickshinny; stepsons, Derek Rosengrant and wife, Alex, Hunlock Creek; and Cory Rosengrant, Shickshinny; niece, Alison Summers Stauffer and husband, Brian, Julian; and nephew, Ryan Summers, Shickshinny.

A memorial Mass will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in Holy Spirit Parish/St. Mary's Church, Mocanaqua, with his pastor, the Rev. Louis Kaminski, as celebrant. Diocese guidelines for procedures and seating in church will be followed. All friends and family are welcome to attend.

Arrangements are under the direction of Mayo Funeral Home Inc., Shickshinny.
