Henrietta Evina Obituary

Henrietta Evina, 94, of Mocanaqua, died Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at Berwick Retirement Village II, where she had been staying.

Born Jan. 19, 1926, in Mocanaqua, she was a daughter of the late John and Apolonia Szczypkowski Zandarski.

She was first employed by the former Baer Silk Mill, Berwick, then by the former Ronnie Dress Factory, Shickshinny, then by the former King's Sportswear, Mocanaqua, and finally by the former Leslie Faye sewing factory, Glen Lyon. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish/St. Mary's Church, Mocanaqua.

She loved her family, home and garden. She did a lot of charity work for St. Cyril's convent, Danville, for whom she made many clothespin bags. One of these bags was requested by the Smithsonian Institution's Museum of American History, Division of Textiles and was added to the collection of the Folk Art Section as an example of American folk life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, on Dec. 24, 1976. She was the last member of her immediate family.

Surviving are a son, Frank J. Evina, Berwick; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Mayo Funeral Home Inc., 77 N. Main St., Shickshinny, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Spirit Parish/St. Mary's Church, Mocanaqua with her pastor, the Rev. Louis Kaminski, as celebrant.

Diocese guidelines for procedures and seating in church will be followed.

Burial will be in the Evina family plot in Ss. Cyril and Methodius Cemetery, Berwick.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
