David George Stevens Obituary

David George Stevens, 81, of Dallas, passed away Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020, surrounded by his family.

David endured a long struggle with lung disease. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Born on Jan. 22, 1939, in New York City, he was the son of the late Evan and Dorothy Stevens. David was educated at Mannheim High School in Lancaster County and Penn State University, University Park. David met his wife, Claudia, while they were both students at Penn State University in 1963.

David was president of the Robert W. Laux Insurance Agency and upon retirement, put his brokerage with the Eastern Insurance Group. He was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and Pennsylvania National Guard.

Some of David's favorite past times were fishing with his sons at the family summer home in Long Beach Island, New Jersey, and golfing at the Irem Temple Club. Every year, he enjoyed fishing with his granddaughter, Olivia, and son, Michael, the first day of trout season. David was an avid Penn State football fan. If he wasn't driving his motor home to the games, he was watching them faithfully at home with family. He taught gun safety for the Pennsylvania Fish and Game Commission. David also coached his son's baseball teams as head coach of the Dallas Pirates from 1971 to 1977 and assistant coach of the Dallas Reds from 1977 to 1979.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his sister, Kristen Donnelly, Colorado.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, the former Claudia Laux; sons, Michael Stevens and spouse, Melissa Butcofski Stevens; Brian Stevens and spouse, Jill Valvonis Stevens; Chris Stevens and spouse, attorney Angela Forlenza Stevens; one granddaughter, Olivia Jane Stevens; brother, Lee Stevens and spouse, Kathy Stevens, Georgia.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon Wednesday in Gate of Heaven Church, 40 Machell Ave., Dallas.

Friends may call from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc., 140 N. Main St., Shavertown.
