Joseph "Crow" Cronick Obituary

Joseph "Crow" Cronick, 86, of Dupont, passed peacefully at United Methodist Homes, Wesley Village Campus, Pittston, on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2020, with his devoted wife, Nancy by his side.

Known by everyone as "The Tastykake Man," Joe worked for - and later owned a franchise of - the legendary Philadelphia bakery for 32 years. Joe was a kind man, always generous to family and friends and would constantly talk about his son, Scott and grandson, Sam.

Born in Dupont on Nov. 7, 1934, Joe was the son of the late Mary Kishel and Joseph Cronick. He was a graduate of Dupont High School, Class of 1953, and was a heck of a basketball player known for his lefty jump shot. He was raised in a large family with two brothers and three sisters.

He loved to golf and bowl, eat footlong hot dogs, watch the Phillies and Eagles play and gamble at the casinos. But his greatest love was his wife, Nancy, whom he married in 1966. He treated her like a queen, always surprising her with gifts and telling her he would love her until the end of time. She returned that love, taking care of him after he suffered a stroke in 1995, and never leaving his side no matter how tough things might have been.

Joe was extremely active in the community, He was past president of the Dupont Lions Club, where he was named Lion of the Year, served as past president of the Holy Name Society and was a founder of the CPD Club, a group of Dupont residents aimed at improving his hometown. He was also very active in his church, Sacred Heart of Jesus, Dupont, and he worked at the Dupont Picnic every year, including decades running the Big 6 wheel.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, John Starinsky and Steve Starinsky; and his sisters, Agnes Starinsky, Margaret Tilley and Joanne Murman.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Rinkus Cronick; his son, Scott Cronick and his wife, LaRissa, Somers Point, N.J.; and grandson, Samuel Cronick, Somers Point, N.J.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Dupont, with The Rev. Thomas Petro officiating. Those attending the Mass are asked to go directly to the church. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lokuta Zawacki Funeral Home, 200 Wyoming Ave., Dupont.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dupont Lions Club.
