William T. "Billy" Hughes Obituary

William "Billy" T. Hughes, 62, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Twp., surrounded by family.

Born on Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland, on Oct. 22, 1958, he was a son of the late Donald Hughes and Beverly Richards Payton.

Billy was a graduate of Crestwood High School and attained his associate degree from Luzerne County Community College. Throughout his life, Billy was an Eagle Scout and had a love of taekwondo. He studied and taught for many years, leading to a black belt. He loved taking long drives, going on adventures, hiking and swimming. He enjoyed listening to music and attending live shows, especially classic rock. Above all else, he was a devoted, attentive and loving father who passed down his passions to his daughters.

Billy is survived by loving daughters, Lindsay Hughes and her husband, Alex Newton, Bethlehem; Megan Hughes and her fiancé, Charlie Grzezdzinski, Wilkes-Barre; Mallory Hughes, Wilkes-Barre; and their mother, with whom he remained close, Karen Howley Hughes; grandson, Emerson Newton; brothers, Donald Hughes; Timothy Hughes; and Spike Payton; sister, Toni White; several nieces and nephews; and countless friends.

A memorial service will be announced by the family and celebrated at Kniffen O'Malley Leffler Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., 465 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, at a time when it is safe to gather.
