Shirley J. Cottrino

Shirley J. Cottrino, 83, of Nanticoke passed away Thursday, July 6, 2017, at Guardian Elder Care Center, Sheatown.

Born June 21, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Steven P. and Helen M. Graboske Cottrino. She was educated in the Nanticoke schools and furthered her education at business school at Luzerne County Community College.

Shirley was employed for many years in administration with the Disabled American Veterans organization.

Taking after her father, who was an accomplished trumpeter, musician and conductor for many symphony orchestras, Shirley loved music from a young age and possessed great musical talent. She also spent many years researching toward writing a book about Russ Morgan, a contemporary of her father, a former Nanticokian and orchestra conductor who went on to national fame. 

She and her family enjoyed summer outings for many years at their cottage at Lake Silkworth. Shirley will be remembered for her never ending devotion to her parents and beloved sister, Donna.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Diane on Feb. 12, 1939, her father, Steven on June 15, 1990 and mother, Helen on Dec. 23, 1995.

Surviving in addition to her sister, Donna, are cousins and many friends and acquaintances.

The funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from Davis-Dinelli Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad St., Nanticoke, with Pastor Timothy G. Hall, of Nebo Baptist Church, Nanticoke, officiating.

Interment will follow in Hanover Green Cemetery, Hanover Twp.

Viewing will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from noon until the time of the service.
