Eddy Ames

R. Ed Eddy Ames, 65, of Topeka passed away at his home on Thursday, September 20, 2012. He was born November 20, 1946 in Topeka the son of Raymond A. and Florence Irene Flanary Ames. He attended Topeka High School. While growing up he worked at Collins Drive-In and Scott Dairy. Mr. Ames worked for over 30 years for NAPA as a District Manager, a short time for the STP Corporation and then for over eight years for the state of Kansas, SRS Department as a purchasing agent before retiring. He loved to fish, belonging to several bass clubs in Topeka, and fishing bass tournaments in the 1980 s and early 1990 s. He was a member of Shawnee Heights United Methodist Church. He and Nancy loved to travel any chance they got to do so. He also loved to garden. He was married to Nancy Jo Harries on July 24, 1965 at Potwin Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife Nancy Ames of their home; sons, Shawn Ames and wife Julie of Topeka and Brian Ames of Hoyt; sister, Janice Parnell and husband Gary of Topeka; mother-in-law, JoAnn Harries of Topeka; sister and brother-in-laws, Vicki Foster and husband Rick, Ken K. Harries and wife Julie and John Harries; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Ken Harries. Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Monday, September 24th at Shawnee Heights United Methodist Church, 6020 SE 44th Street, Tecumseh Ks 66542. Inurnment will follow the church service at Topeka Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3-5 pm Sunday at the church.
