Betty Nicolay Obituary

BALDWIN CITY- Betty Nicolay, 87, passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She was born on April 17, 1922 in Osage City the daughter of Robert and Migonette Rice Burd. She had lived in Osage County for many years, in and around Lawrence and had lived in Baldwin City since 1999. Betty had worked as a practical nurse in Lawrence for 18 years for Dr. Mitchell. She was a homemaker and care giver. On October 12, 1940 Betty was married to James Nicolay, Sr. in Osage City. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Jim on October 26, 2001. Also preceding her in death was a granddaughter, Tiffani Harper, a great-granddaughter, Britni Proctor, her parents, two brothers, Bill Burd and Robert Burd and four sisters, Mary Robbins, Anna Mae Bronson, Helen Fitzwater and Verna Groff. Betty is survived by her three children, Mary Louise Anderson of Carbondale, Ed Nicolay and Suzi Gottstein, both of Baldwin City, her sister, Bessie Rissen of Topeka, 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Betty will be at 10:00am on Friday, March 5, 2010 at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. She will lie in state from 5:00-8:00pm today at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00pm. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery north of Lyndon. Memorial contributions may be made payable to Heart of America Hospice and sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS. 66451. Betty Nicolay
