Bonnie J. Short, age 88, of Cottonwood Falls, KS., died December 8, 2011. A celebration of life service will be held Monday, December 12, at 2:00 P.M., at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls. The daughter of Harvey and Ethel Myers Osborn, she was born May 28, 1923. She graduated from Chase County Community High School in 1941. She married Bill Short on April 6, 1945 and he died June 30, 2005. They spent their entire married life as ranchers/farmers in Chase County. She was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 7 and started insulin therapy. The Joslin Diabetes Foundation and The Diabetic Fund, both of Boston, awarded her medals in 1981 for having taken insulin for 50 years. The Kansas American Diabetes Association of Wichita awarded her a 54 year medal in 1985. She was awarded medals for 25 years, 50 years, and 75 years of successful Insulin Therapy by the Eli Lilly Co. in 2007. She was president of the Chase County Historical Society for eight years and served as a Director of the Kansas State Historical Society in Topeka for 12 years. She is survived by one sister, Elizabeth Betty Pinkston of Cottonwood Falls and several nieces and nephews.
