Sister Mary Loretta Beier The Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth mourn the loss of Sister Mary Loretta Beier, 88, and celebrate her entrance into God s full embrace. She died on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Ross Hall, Mother House, Leavenworth, KS. Barbara Mary Beier was born on December 27, 1927 in Topeka, Kansas, one of sixteen children of George Joseph and Catherine Melchior Beier. She graduated from St. Joseph Elementary School and Capitol Catholic High School, Topeka, KS. She received a B.S. in Elementary Education and a M.S. in Elementary Administration from Saint Mary College, Leavenworth, KS. She entered the religious community of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth on August 14, 1946 and, as Sister Mary Loretta made her profession of vows on August, 15, 1948. She served God as a Sister of Charity for 70 years. Over the years, Sister Mary Loretta served as a housemother, teacher, and principal. In 1977 she returned to the Mother House as Coordinator and Director of retreats. She retired to Ross Hall in 2012. Survivors include her brother George (Kay) Beier, Sequim, WA; sister-in-law Mary (Bernard) Beier, North Augusta, SC; many nieces, nephews, friends and her SCL Community. A vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 in Ross Chapel of the Sisters of Charity Mother House in Leavenworth, where friends may call after 4:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Ross Chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2016. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery on the Mother House grounds. Belden-Larkin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
