Marie Moore Obituary

Marie Leavie Moore

Pearl - Marie Leavie Cockrell Moore, 98, of Pearl passed away peacefully at St. Dominic's Hospital March 2, 2018. Leavie was born June 4, 1919, in Polkville, Mississippi to Nollie Monroe Cockrell and Myrle Arlena Richardson Cockrell. Leavie came to Jackson at the age of 21 and worked for Tucker Latham Seed and Feed Company for 33 years. Right after World War II in 1945, Leavie married Daniel Webster Moore. They moved to Pearl in 1951 and lived there the remainder of their life.

Leavie was an active member of First Baptist Church of Pearl since 1959 where she taught 6 year olds in Sunday School for over 20 years. As a young girl, Leavie was a member of the Oak Grove Church of God in Polkville. Leavie and Dan attended the Wilmoth Senior Citizen Center in Pearl from the very first day of operation in 1980.

Leavie enjoyed crocheting and gave afghans to many friends and family members. She also enjoyed gardening while she was able. During her later years, she suffered from neuropathy and had limited mobility.

We would like to thank the caregivers at Wisteria Gardens for their loving attendance to mother during her last days.

Leavie was preceded in death by her husband, Dan, of 40 years and by her sister, Lois Cockrell Pullen. She is survived by one daughter, Linda Moore Wolfe and son-in-law, Dr. Bob Wolfe, of Brandon. She is also survived by granddaughters, Dr. Valerie Marie Wolfe (Phil Ostberg) of San Francisco and Dr. Carmen Christine Wolfe (Ryan Igleheart) of Nashville. Leavie's first great-grandson, Wolfe Bridwell Igleheart was the apple of her eye in her final days. Leavie was anxiously awaiting the birth of her second great-grandson in a couple of weeks. She is also survived by three nieces and their families-Carolyn Pullen Carpenter of New Orleans, Jean Pullen Platt of Atlanta, and Virginia Pullen Crozier of Pearl.

Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday, March 8, 2018, from 11-2 at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl.. Funeral services will follow at 2 pm at Baldwin-Lee with interment at Lakewood Cemetery in Jackson. Services will be officiated by Dr. Keith Grubbs, pastor of Park Place Baptist Church.

Miss Leavie was such a talented lady: cook, seamstress, artist with the crochet hook, gardener, etc. She loved children who loved her in return. Her absence on Earth is to be present with our Lord.
