Nell H. Armstrong

Nell Elizabeth Hobgood Armstrong, 81, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, December 28, 2012 from the University Medical Center in Jackson. A memorial service will be held 11am Monday, December 31, 2012 at Lakewood Funeral Home.

Nell was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed being with her family. She was blessed to be well enough to spend her last two weeks in her home. She had played Bunko with her and friends, and had gone shopping for Christmas presents last week, enjoying her life to the utmost. Her family was especially thankful for this.

Nell was raised in Silver City, MS in the Delta, her parents were the late Walter and Nell Hobgood. She was a graduate of Silver City High School and had earned her BA degree from Ole Miss where she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. Because of her love for teaching Nell taught 7th grade math in the Madison County School District for several years, then later in life she and her husband of over 56 years, Joseph "Joe" Armstrong owned and operated Madison/Ridgeland Liquor and Wine where they were well known and loved by their many customers. Nell was proud to say that she had lived in Madison since 1965. Although her death caught her family by surprise, they are comforted in the fact that she is with her Lord and the love of her life, her husband Joe, who preceded her in death in 2009.

She leaves behind her children; her son Joseph Armstrong III and his wife Terry of Pearl, her daughter, Betsy Armstrong Clark and her husband, Ben of Madison, four precious grandchildren, Jeff, Caitlin, Jessica and Nicholas, and two great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Nell's honor to : Wells United Methodist Church in Jackson, or to the Boy Scouts of America, troop 15 of St. Matthew's United Methodist Church of Madison.
