1921 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
Jeanne RoBards Michel

Madison - Jeanne RoBards Michel, 97, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2018 at St. Catherine's Village in Madison. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at St. Richard Catholic Church, Jackson, MS followed by the memorial service at the Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be private.

Jeanne Brantley RoBards was born on April 3, 1921 in Bartlesville, OK, as a member of America's Greatest Generation. She was the only child of Marguerite and Henry RoBards.

At the age of 5, her family moved to San Antonio, TX where the family purchased their first car, a Pierce-Arrow, and Jeanne attended elementary school at McKinley Public Schools.

In 1929, Jeanne's family moved into the Aurora Apartment Hotel in San Antonio while her father was studying co-operative apartment development during the depression.

She attended both Thomas Jefferson and Alamo Heights high schools and entered Edgewood Park Junior College in Briarcliff Manor, N.Y. where she studied Child Psychology. During a short time at Miss Simple's Finishing School in New York, America became fully engaged in World War II, and Jeanne returned to San Antonio.

During World War II, Jeanne volunteered with the American Red Cross and at Kelly Air Force Base, serving sandwiches and coffee to servicemen. After the war, she worked for her father as he developed RoBards Subdivision northeast of San Antonio, which became known as RoBards, Texas. She also traveled extensively in Europe and the Middle East.

A friend of the family, Henrietta Yerger Jones, introduced Jeanne to J. Walter Michel on a blind date at LeFleur's Restaurant in Jackson, and they were married two years later on February 2, 1957. From this wonderful marriage, three children, - Peggy, Walter and Henry - were born.

Jeanne was very active in the Jackson community and was a member of many organizations - the Junior League, Southern Luncheon Club, Le Dejeuner Club, One O'clock Luncheon Club, Capital City Club, Holiday Club, Calliope Club, River Hills Club, and the Official Mississippi Women's Club. She served as a Cub Scout leader which led to both of her sons becoming Eagle Scouts.

Preceding Jeanne in death were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry RoBards, and her husband J. Walter Michel, II. She is survived by her three children: Peggy Michel Hackl (husband Jim) from Carmel, IN; J. Walter Michel, III (wife Beth); and Henry R. Michel (wife Jennifer). She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to the St. Richard Special Kids' program.
