Jo Ann Melvin Corban Obituary
Jo Ann Melvin Corban

- - Jo Ann Melvin Corban, age 76, of Collins, passed away Tuesday, September 11 2018, after an eight year battle with Multiple Myeloma. A loving wife, devoted mother, beloved grandmother, treasured friend, and faithful church goer, Jo Ann left a legacy of generosity, good-works, and love for everyone.

Jo Ann was born in Jackson on August 25, 1942, the eldest daughter to Morris Knight and Marguerite Marshall Melvin, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister, Barbara "Babs' Melvin Knieriem, of Franklin, Tenn. Jo Ann graduated in 1960 from Jackson Central High School.

For 57 years, Jo Ann was the beloved wife of Alfred D. "Don" Corban also of Jackson. Jo Ann and Don shared a full life that took them far and wide. Jo Ann devoted her life to making a home, raising her children and enjoying all that life brought her. As a gifted heirloom seamstress and possessing the greenest thumb, she filled her world with beauty. Jo Ann's sense of adventure and endless curiosity lead her to explore her world from a tent and a travel trailer. From her work around the country with U.S. Forest Service as a civilian contractor on wildland fire and natural disaster details, to the many years of white water canoe trips and other ramblings, foreign and domestic, with her husband and partner in crime, Jo Ann never lost her free spirit.

Jo Ann is survived by her three children, Ty Corban of Oxford, Ala., David Corban of Naples, Fl, and Leigh C. Todd Scheiderman of Collins. She regretfully leaves behind her grandchildren, Matthew Corban, Page Corban, Katey Corban, Caroline Corban, Corban Todd, Kenner Todd and Porter Scheiderman, and Great grandchildren, Branson and Sutton Corban and Micah Newell.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate this remarkable woman on Friday, September 14 2018 at 12 noon at St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church in Collins. Visitation will be immediately prior at the church from 10 a.m. until 12 noon. Per Jo Ann's express wishes, a pilgrimage will be made by the family to Benton, Tenn. to scatter her ashes at her "happy place" down the Hiwassee River at a later date. In lue of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church's outreach fund.
