Nancy J. Bowers Obituary
Nancy J. Bowers

Port Gibson - Funeral services for Nancy Julia "Doodle" Bowers, 82, who passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Claiborne County Medical Center, will be held on Monday, June 18, 2018 at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton with visitation from 9:00am to 11:00am. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Doodle was a lifelong resident of the state of Mississippi. Growing up in Jackson, she was an accomplished athlete in tennis, softball, bowling, and golf. Nancy was awarded both state and national rankings in the sport of tennis. Throughout her adult life, Doodle loved to find herself on the links and was a participant in numerous golf tournaments throughout the state.

Nancy worked as an employee of Ingalls Shipbuilding, Capital Welding, Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, and in the plastics industries. She served as a member in many professional and business associations. Later in life, Doodle became a successful entrepreneur in the establishment of a partnership in a multi-faceted business including a Christmas store, a pet store, and a landscaping and lawn maintenance service.

Nancy enjoyed painting and drawing and was well known among her friends for her comical caricatures. She enjoyed playing cards, watching football, and attending a good party. In fact, she was the life of every party and event she attended! Doodle loved to laugh and lived to put a smile on someone's face. She was an avid animal lover and devoted much of her time and money in the care of all animals. A member of the Roman Catholic Church, as well as a Secular Franciscan, she was compassionate, loving, and kind to all she met….both two-legged and four-legged!

Survivors include two sisters: Rita Hammond and Pam Craft, and three brothers: Tony Hammond, Terry Bowers, and Brian Bowers. Doodle is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends including her longtime, closest friend and caretaker, Elizabeth Wilhite, and her favorite four-legged friend, Harry Bowers.

In lieu of flowers, Nancy's wish was that contributions be made to any organization dedicated to the humane treatment of animals.
