Sarah Thomsen Obituary

Sarah DeWitt Thomsen

Wilton, CT

Sarah DeWitt Thomsen, 90, of Wilton, Connecticut, died on February 13, 2016. She was a longtime resident of Jackson, prior to moving to Wilton in 2012.

Born and raised in Waco, Texas, Sarah was the daughter of Sarah Owen DeWitt and David Augustus DeWitt. She was predeceased by Robert L. (Bob) Thomsen, her husband of nearly fifty-five years, who was also from Waco originally. She was also predeceased by her brothers, David DeWitt, of Hillsboro, Texas, and John DeWitt, of Dallas.

Sarah is survived by her daughter, Susan; son-in-law, Norman Trepner; and grandson, Jacob Trepner, of Westport, Connecticut. She is also survived by her brother William O. DeWitt and his wife, Hester, of Dallas, as well as sisters-in-law, Betty DeWitt, Lynn DeWitt, and Katherine Ladd; and many nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Waco High School and attending Baylor University and the University of Texas, Sarah went to work for the Waco Tribune-Herald as a reporter and editor. When she married Bob, they moved to Jackson, where she was a homemaker, a volunteer for many organizations—Brownie Troop 55, University hospital, and the International Ballet Competition, among others—and an active member of St. James Episcopal Church. As an older student, Sarah returned to college and finished her undergraduate degree at Belhaven University, in Jackson.

Like her brothers, Sarah had an appreciation for the humorous side of life. Due to their basketball-playing influence, Sarah was a lifelong sports fan; she rooted for many teams, including Baylor, Texas A & M, Texas, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, and UConn. She was an avid reader and Scrabble and bridge player, and she was an excellent cook. She loved being with her family, and they loved being with her.

Interment services in Jackson will be private.

The gentle and gracious spirit of Sarah Thomsen lives on. Memorial gifts may be made to the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science Foundation (Attention: Angel Rohnke), 2148 Riverside Drive, Jackson, MS 39202.

Deepest condolences. I was Mrs. Thomsens home health nurse for a while.
she was always so kind and genteel. I will never forget her tomato pie recipe, and will prepare one today in her memory. Peace, Jan Whitlow, RN
