Madison - Dr. Truitt Palmer Wilks, faithful follower of Christ, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior on January 10, 2019, at the age of 86. Born in Noxapater, Mississippi on November 14, 1932, Palmer spent his childhood in Meridian and graduated from Meridian High School in 1950. He earned a degree in chemistry from Mississippi College in 1954 and went on to attend the University of Tennessee Dental School, where he earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1957. Upon Peggy's death in 1997 after 41 years of marriage, Palmer was introduced to Jean Jackson on a blind date arranged by his daughter. They were married on May 8, 1999 and have been blessed with over 19 years together. He loved studying the Bible and teaching Sunday School (affectionately called "Palmer's Class") for over 20 years at First Baptist Church in Madison. A longtime member of Colonial Country Club, he enjoyed many years of golf and camaraderie there. Palmer loved planning trips and travelling, as well as working in his yard with his dogs by his side. He could often be seen by passers-by on Hoy Road riding his blue tractor. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Gertrude Palmer Wilks and James Earl Wilks; wife, Peggy Taylor Wilks; sisters, Elgie Wilkes Chatham, Doris Wilkes Tissue, Melba Wilkes Chesney, and Faye Wilkes Tidwell.
