Dorothy R. Wittig, age 84 of Loyd Star Community, passed from this life to the next on Monday, November 4th at Haven Hall Health Care Center in Brookhaven after a brief illness. She was born in Lincoln County and graduated from Loyd Star High School, Copiah-Lincoln Junior College and Syracuse University.

She was preceded in death by her husband William L. Wittig, Mother and Father Ruth Holden Assink and George H. Assink, and her two brothers Noel H. Assink and Albert Assink.

She is survived by her nephews and nieces: Terence N. Assink, Franklin, TN, Michael L. Assink , Loyd Star, Kathy Assink Dicharry, Cabool, MO, Randall W. Assink, Ridgeland, MS, and Rebecca Assink Hennington , Mumbai, India. Grand Nephews and Nieces: Michael Assink, Emily Assink Haley, Joseph Assink, William Assink, Seth Assink, Stephen Assink, Josiah Dicharry, Paul Dicharry, Miriam Dicharry, Lorretta Dicharry, Kyle Hennington, Connor Hennington and four great grand nephews and nieces: Isaac, Catherine, Presley, and Piper Assink.

She was a career U.S. Air Force officer serving in Europe, Asia, and the United States and retired at the rank of Major. In 1978, she returned to Mississippi and operated her family farm with her husband. She was very active in the United Methodist Church, serving as Sunday school teacher and Lay Leader for Sweetwater United Methodist Church. She also earned a Masters of Divinity degree from Wesley Biblical Seminary in Jackson and served on the seminary's Board of Trustees.

The family wishes to express their appreciation for the kindness and care provided by the staff of Haven Hall Health Care Center.
