Ken Pouncey is most remembered for his 16 year tenure as football coach at East Central Community College (1966-1982). It was this era of his life that Ken most enjoyed his interaction with his students in physical education class and his passion with his players on the football field is what he most cherished. He mentored and encouraged his children, his students and his athletes to be the "most they could be". One of Ken Pouncey's noteworthy contributions to his community was as superintendent of the Newton County School District. His work in that capacity was instrumental in consolidating the schools of Beulah Hubbard, Decatur, and Hickory. Consolidation was an unpopular concept at that time; but Ken Pouncey was willing to sacrifice his job as Superintendant in order to ensure that the students of the district would have the opportunity to obtain a quality education.

Since Mr. Pouncey retired in 2001 he continued to serve in an active role in the Decatur United Methodist Church. He has served as president of the Newton County Retired Teachers Association. He has been a member of the Decatur Jaycees and the Decatur Lions Club. He has also served as a member of the ECCC Board of Trustees.

He was also a member of Decatur American Legion Post 89. He served in the Mississippi Army National Guard from 1956-1962. He served on the Board of Directors of the Mid-Mississippi Development District as well as a Director for the Pat Harrison Waterway District.

Pouncey will be remembered as a loving and supportive husband, father, grandfather, and friend who put the welfare of others above his own. Mr. Pouncey was presented a Plaque of Appreciation on behalf of the Greater Decatur Chamber of Commerce at the Greater Decatur Chamber of Commerce Banquet in November 2010.
