Harold Blalock


Harold Blalock, age 71, of Columbus, MS passed away Tuesday December 6, 2011 at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Services will be held Saturday December 10, 2011 at 11:00am at First Baptist Church with Dr. Shawn Parker officiating, burial will follow at Egger Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday December 9, 2011 from 6:00-8:00pm at Memorial Funeral Home.

Harold was born on February 25, 1940 in Columbus to the late F.B. "Bill" Blalock and the late Fannie Jane Wells Blalock. An active member of First Baptist Church and a lifelong resident of Lowndes County, Harold graduated from Caledonia High School, attended Mississippi State University and served six years with the Mississippi National Guard. For many years he had farming interests in the Golden Triangle area and operated the Blalock and Son Cotton Gin in Caledonia. Harold was elected to the Lowndes County Board of Supervisors for 13 years, eight of which he served as president of the board. For the past 20 years, he has worked as a salesman and store manager for Stribling Equipment.

Harold is survived by his wife of 49 years, Janet Grant Blalock, two sons Jason Blalock and his wife Susanne of Madison, MS, and Jared Blalock and his wife Emily of Madison, MS. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Lauren Blalock, Hunter Blalock, Justin Blalock and Wyatt Blalock, two sisters Linda Hanson and her husband Bruce of Columbus, and Jane Kidd and her husband Jim of Warner Robbins, GA, brother-in-law Willis Grant Jr and his wife Anne of Columbus and mother-in-law Gaye Grant of Columbus.

Pallbearers will be Herb Caston, Neil Coker, Dan Eaves, John Gilmer, Sonny Glenn, Tommy Glenn, Frank Howell, and Mike Perkerson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Farrell Booker, Cecil Boswell, Chuck Bryant, Joe Clark, Charlie Dale, Milton Davidson, Allen Eaves, Phillip Eaves, Todd Eaves, Mac Egger, Skeeth Elliott, Leon Ellis, Don Gilmer, Andy Glenn, Chris Glenn, Ray Gore, Jason Greener, John Hawkins, Allen Holmes, James Huffman, Billy Hull, Willis Jones, Randy Martin, Jack Muirhead, Red Muirhead, Brad Perkerson, Mike Perrigin, Billy Phillips, Bob Phillips, Bud Phillips, Doug Phillips, Charlie Pilkinton, Howard Sharp, Jay Shoemaker, Barry Skeen, Ashley Stevens, Jerry Swanson, Scott Swanson, Joel Thomas, Derrick Troupe, Carey Upton, Henry Vaughn, James Walters, Mickey Williams, employees of Stribling Equipment, and members of the Hawkins-Martin Sunday School Class.
