Sally Williams Wilson


Sally Williams Wilson, 97, died on February 7 at her daughter's home in Starkville, Miss.

Services will be held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Lexington, Miss., Monday at 2 p.m. Visitation will be at the church prior to the service at 1 p.m. The Reverend Jane Alexander will officiate at the service. Burial will be at the Goodman Hillcrest Cemetery following the service. Southern Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Wilson was born in Washington, D.C., on February 26, 1916, to Robert Webb and Helen Schenck Williams. She graduated from Peabody Demonstration High School in Nashville, Tenn. She attended Brenau College in Gainesville, Ga., and Washington School for Secretaries. She graduated from Belhaven College and received a Master of Arts in English and a Master of Business Education from the University of Mississippi.

Mrs. Wilson taught English and business at Holmes Junior College for 32 years. She also sponsored Phi Theta Kappa, a community college honor society, during her time at Holmes.

Mrs. Wilson was a member of Alpha Omega Pi sorority at Brenau. She was a member of Chi Delta honorary Society at Belhaven and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma honorary teachers' society.

She was a member and past president of the Magnolia Club and the Woman's Reading Club of Goodman, Miss., and played in several bridge groups.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Wilson, her brothers Dr. Robert Webb Williams, Jr., John Sharp Williams IV, and her great-grandson Austin James Anthony.

Survivors include her son Billy Wilson of Goodman, her son Bobby Wilson and his wife Caroline of Goodman, and her daughter Betty Wilson McPhail and husband James of Starkville. In addition, she is survived by six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
