Mary Jones Obituary
Mary H. Jones

Baton Rouge

Mary Hayes Jones passed away in Baton Rouge at her home on November 19, 2014, two days before her 95th birthday. Mary was born on November 21, 1919, in Madison County, Mississippi to James Edgar Hayes and Lou Ida Slater Hayes. She was a graduate of Byram High School and Hinds Junior College, and moved to Jackson shortly thereafter where she met her husband, Jack. They were married there. Jack preceded her in death on November 15, 2014, a mere four days before. Mary will be remembered as a fabulous cook and gardener; her green thumb was legendary, and her yard and gardens were the envy of all. Her cooking, especially her fried chicken and beloved caramel cake were the stuff of which dreams are made. Her survivors include her son, Jack Rawls Jones, III, Southaven, MS; Nancy Jones McKay (David Entringer), Baton Rouge; her grandchildren W. Rawls McKay, Ann Arbor, Michigan; J. Slater McKay (Kenissa); a brother-in-law, Jack Wightman, Dalmeny, New South Wales, Australia; and niece and nephew, Melissa Dugon and Christopher Wightman, both in Australia. Our family would like to thank the many neighbors and friends who were so good to our mother. As per her wishes, there will be no funeral. Interment will take place at a later date.
