Marlane Dove Obituary

Marlane Dove

Jackson

Marlane C. Dove, 69, of Jackson, Mississippi, passed away on June 3, 2017 at Hospice Ministry in Ridgeland.

Marlane Dove was born March 21, 1948, and was predeceased by her parents, Bernard W. N. Chill, Sr. and Lilyan R. Chill. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Luke, and their son, Christopher. She is also survived by her aunt, Virginia Agnone, her brother, Bernie Chill and wife, Ginger, and a legion of devoted friends.

Marlane was an honor graduate of Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley, Massachusetts, where she acquired her love of English history and literature. She was also an honor graduate of The University of Mississippi School of Law and served on the law journal. Marlane practiced law in Jackson for almost 40 years, specializing in bankruptcy law and estate matters. She was dedicated to her clients and never much concerned about a fee. Marlane helped many families cope with unexpected financial difficulties and took much pride in helping clients with matters which were routine to her but of great importance in their lives including adoptions, guardianships wills and deeds.

Marlane had a wealth of friends who loved and cherished her. She was always there to offer love, support and comfort. With the love, support and comfort of these same friends, her final days were remarkably good.

Marlane's family would like to offer special and heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff, nurses and doctors at the surgical ICU unit of the Mississippi Baptist Hospital. Their efforts on Marlane's behalf were unceasing and reflected the highest professional standards. The family also offers genuine and lasting gratitude to Ruby Lewis, a long-time friend and helpmate, and to the caring and loving congregation of Northminster Baptist Church.

Marlane loved to travel and visit beautiful towns such as Montalcino, Italy and Bariloche, Argentina. She loved to visit gardens and was particularly fond of the Gardens of Monet in Giverny, France and the gardens and grounds of the Bally Fin estate in Ireland. She once walked among the flowers at Bally Fin after a rain shower and witnessed a magnificent double rainbow arching through the sky down to the emerald hills. She reached for the hand of her husband and watched in grateful silence. Marlane truly loved flowers and would create beautiful arrangements from her own cuttings and shared them with friends.

Marlane was a wonderful hostess. She also served as president of the Alliance Francaise in Jackson and the Mississippi Opera Guild. She even eventually learned to enjoy flying and traveling with her husband in a small airplane, especially after he acquired an airplane with a built-in parachute.

Marlane was an elegant and beautiful person; a loving wife and mother. She was greatly loved in return. May her soul rest in eternal peace in the presence of God.

A private graveside service will be held at Parkway Cemetery on Friday, July 7 at 10 a.m. followed by a visitation at 11 am and a Memorial Service at noon at Northminster Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, Marlane's family asks that her friends consider sending a remembrance to the Pastors Benevolent Fund, Northminster Baptist Church, 3955 Ridgewood Road, Jackson, Mississippi 39211.

Almost 4 years later and I thought of Marlane only last week. She was not only a wonderful attorney whose dedicated work had an enormous impact on my life but became a friend who I will always cherish. Thinking of her son and husband at this time but Marlane's spirit will always light my way.

I love Marlane and Luke. Besides being a beautiful and gracious person, Marlane truly did dedicate herself to her clients as her obituary states. I am an example of that. Her work for me, along with that of her husband, was so terribly important to me and has had long term wonderful results for us. Her generosity of spirit and dedication and talent always shined through in my every dealing with her. She'll be so missed.
