Donald McNair, 81, passed away peacefully at his Empire home on Jan. 8, 2019.
Don was a longtime Clear Creek County resident. He was a skilled outdoorsman and one of the first members of the Alpine Rescue Team and Colorado Mountain Club, and known as McMaintainence as one of the first employees at Loveland Ski Area.
While his roots were in Clear Creek County, Don traveled and worked all over the world including the Arctic and Antarctica.
He started his career as an electronics tech in the U.S. Navy, was a deep sea diver and retired from the U.S. Geological Survey.
Don was always questioning, learning and forever creating. He was a silversmith, a woodworker who made furniture and canoes, an artist and an avid photographer.
Don is survived by his wife of 33 years, Catherine Vaughn; his stepdaughter and son-in-law Christine and Jamie Hendrickson; and his two adoring granddaughters, Liv and Elin. Don is also survived by his cousin Katherine Smith
There will be a private memorial service.
