A long time local has gone to see our Lord in Heaven. Roberta Josephine Branson-Knapp, known as Bobbie, passed on Nov. 21, 2017. She was born Feb. 10, 1931, in Wray, Colo., to Beatrice and Robert Cumley, and her parents moved to Bailey. Then Bobbie moved to Idaho Springs in 1957 and lived there until her departure.
Bobbie was well known as a cook and manager at Chief Idaho restaurant, which is now Clear Creek Supply, Kings Derby, Marion's of the Rockies and Jiggie's Cafe, and she cooked and managed at the well known Indian Hot Springs Resort. Then she eventually became a massage therapist and retired from there. The restaurants were very fortunate to have her because she was a dedicated employee and loved to cook.
Bobbie married Leslie Stewart Branson of Bailey. They had three girls, two of whom were twins: Rebecca Branson More of Steamboat Springs, and Roberta Branson Pritchard and Mary Branson Prickett Jr., both of Idaho Springs, from her first marriage. Then she had two children from her second marriage, Rodney Knapp and Missy Knapp-Sierras of Idaho Springs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bessie and Robert, and her daughters Roberta and Mary. She has 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and friend, and a well-respected member of the community. She will be greatly missed and always with us in our hearts. May the Lord shine upon her to take care of her and her families forever.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her daughter, Melissa Sierras, P.O. Box 382, Idaho Springs, CO 80452.
