Marion Kurfis Obituary

Marion (Lorenz) Kurfis passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at home in Oakley, Ohio. She was 94 years old. Marion was born on July 30, 1926 to Ray Lorenz and Ella (Lambacher) Lorenz in Cleveland, Ohio. Marion attended Cleveland Public Schools and graduated from Lincoln High School in June 1944. She was a member of the National Honor Society. In September 1944 she continued her education at Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio. She graduated from Baldwin Wallace in 1948 with a degree in business education. While at Baldwin Wallace she met her future husband Robert F. (Kurf) Kurfis who was a Navy pilot during World War II. Marion also took an active role in her sorority, Delta Zeta. Marion worked for a few years after college at East Ohio Gas. On June 19, 1950, Marion and Kurf were married at Trinity Evangelical & Reformed Church in Cleveland, Ohio, which was made more special because it was shared with Marion's parents Silver Wedding Anniversary and her grandparents, George and Kathleen Lambacher's, Golden Wedding Anniversary. After they were married, Marion and Kurf moved to Olmsted Falls, Ohio where they raised their three children. They made great family memories spending weekends at their cottage in Apple Valley Ohio and annual trips to Key West. In 1998 Marion and Kurf moved to Bonita Springs, Florida where they lived until 2013. Marion was an active volunteer at the First Presbyterian Church and was instrumental in getting the thrift store at the church started. In 2013 they moved to Cincinnati, Ohio to be closer to their daughter. Marion was preceded in death by her husband Robert Kurfis, in 2019 (they were married 64 years) and by her son Robert Kurfis, Jr. in 2001. She is survived by her son William Kurfis (Kathy) and her daughter Heidi Kramer (Larry), and grandchildren: Heather (Derek) Thompson, LeighAnn (Austin) Sheldon, Zachary (Hillary) Kramer, Amelia (Mike) Pollard, Natalie (Wil) Bryan, Emma Kurfis, Libby Kurfis and great grandchildren: RJ, Samuel, Eloise Sheldon and William Pollard.She is also survived by her brother Robert Lorenz (Maureen) in Bonita Springs, Florida.
