WILLIAM T. WILDER M.D. Obituary
age 88, of Lakewood, Ohio, died Wednesday, December 5, 2018. A native of Anderson, Indiana, Dr. Wilder earned a Doctor of Medicine from Indiana University in 1955. Following completion of his education, he served in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps aboard the USS Windham Bay, stationed out of Bremerton, WA. Dr. Wilder married his lifetime love, Sara Geneva Stewart, also of Anderson, Indiana, in 1958. Together, they relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, where they raised a family and where he served a long and distinguished career in Internal and Sports Medicine. His many accomplishments and honors include serving as Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine, Case Western University; Chief of Staff, Lutheran Hospital; Team physician and Medical Director, Cleveland Indians Professional Baseball Club; Team Physician, Cleveland Cavaliers Professional Basketball Club; President, Association of Major League Baseball Team Physicians; Physician-in-Attendance, H.R.H. Prince Charles and H.R.H. Princess Margaret; Recipient, Lutheran Medical Center Foundation "Leaders of the Year" Award; and recipient, Cleveland Clinic Western Region "Pillars of Medicine" Award. Dr. Wilder was a longtime member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity (Beta Theta Chapter); Cleveland Academy of Medicine; Ohio State Medical Association; American Medical Association; American College of Physicians; Pasteur Society; Innominatum Society; and the Old Stone Presbyterian Church. He served as Board Member for Cleveland Hearing and Speech Center and was a Life Trustee and Board Member of Fairview and Lutheran Hospital Foundation Board of Trustees. Following his retirement in 2000, Dr. Wilder loved spending his time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He also nurtured his love of drawing and painting by joining the Aquarelle Watercolor Society. He participated in local art shows, and was known for his annual Christmas cards which featured his original artwork. Dr. Wilder is survived by his beloved wife, Sara; daughter Jennifer W. Morgan (Guy) of Houston, Texas; son W. Stewart Wilder (Debbie Osborn) of Boise, Idaho; and daughter Carolyn W. Rose, (Daniel) of Avon Lake, Ohio. He is grandfather to Jason Morgan, Nathaniel Wilder, the late Cameron Wilder, Samuel, Jillian and Charlotte Rose. Dr. Wilder's parents, Hazel Richardson Wilder and Dr. Gordon B. Wilder, his step-mother Myrtle Brown Wilder, and his brother, Richard Wilder, preceded him in death. In his last days, Dr. Wilder was lovingly cared for by the staff of The Lutheran Home and Crossroads Hospice and Palliative Care. The family is eternally grateful for the care and compassion extended to their beloved husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather. A memorial service will be held at Old Stone Presbyterian Church, 91 Public Square, Cleveland, OH, 44113 on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. Valet Parking provided at 1380 Ontario Street. Family will receive friends at the Busch Funeral Home, 21369 Center Ridge Road, Fairview Park, OH from 4-7 p.m. Friday, January 25.
