Visitation for Ray Goddard, 77, of Hartshorne, Oklahoma, formerly of Portales, will be from 8:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. at the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Funeral Services at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, March 29, 2010, with Rev. Don Hay officiating. Also Masonic Rites will be given by the local Masonic Lodge. Burial will follow at Portales Cemetery with Bruce Barcheers, Kaleb Barcheers, James Goddard, Dakota Snell, Kyle Bonem, and Shon Knox as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers for Ray will be Darin Bonem, Dylan Knox, Mark Bonem, Chad Rutledge, Elijah Rutledge, Brice Carter, Brendon Carter, Skyler Cantazero, Dustin Cantazero, and Jordan Welch.
Ray was born on December 22, 1932, in Arch, Oklahoma to James and Linnie Pearl (Hennington) Goddard and passed away on March 25, 2010, in Hartshorne, Oklahoma. He graduated from 8th grade in Plainview, Texas. He worked on the family farm in Arch until he was 18 years old and married Imogene King. They moved to Arizona where he worked in the lead and zinc mines. He came back to Oklahoma and worked at McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, then went to New Mexico and worked about 3 years on a milk delivery truck. He later went to work for Mead Bread Company and married Barbara Shirley in 1974. He moved to Oklahoma City in 1978, where he worked for Rainbow Bread Company, retiring in 1996. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and enjoyed raising Ostriches with his wife.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; 1st wife, Imogene Goddard; his 2nd wife, Barbara Goddard on March 25, 2005; his daughters, Jo Aline Goddard (Wilkins), and Margaret Linstead; his son, Gerald Goddard; his brothers, Raymond Goddard and David Goddard; his sister, Gladys Mote; his sister-in-law, Marie Kimbral; his brother-in-law, Ronnie Shirley, and his nephew, CarlDee Goddard.
Ray is survived by his sons, Bobby and Virginia Carter of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Danny Carter and Cheryl Bodnar of Phoenix, Arizona; his daughters, Billie Knox and Jeff Gutzler of Portales, and Dee and David Rutledge of Seattle, Washington. Also surviving Ray are his brothers, Josh Goddard of Hartshorne, Oklahoma, Walter Goddard of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Carl and Polly Goddard of Hartshorne, Oklahoma; his sister, Bertalee Young of Indianola, Oklahoma; his brothers-in-law, Albert and Geneva Shirley of Portales, Delman and Jolene Shirley of Clovis. Also surviving Ray are his sisters-in-laws, Alice and Fred Collins of Artesia, Arlene and Orvil Griffeth of Portales, Wanda Reed of Clovis, Doris Brown of Brownsville, Texas, Peggy Sue Gaynor of Chandler, Texas, Judy and LD Clark of Brownsville, Texas; 20 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wheeler Mortuary of Portales, 575-356-4455.
