POOLER - On Thursday, May 3, 2018, God's faithful servant Carolyn Francena Clark-Smith quietly slept away into the presence of God.
Carolyn was the older sister to Phyllis Clark-McCloud, Fredricka Williams, Janis Johns; and Gregory Mitchell, and stepsister to Beatrice Mitchell. Their sister, Lloma Clark preceded them in death.
"Peggy" as she was known by her family, was born in Yamato, Florida, on Jan. 8, 1937, to Willie and Viola Clark-Mitchell. She obtained her formal education at Carver High School in Delray Beach, Florida. Upon graduating from high school, she chose to serve her country by joining the United States Navy. After serving six years in the Navy, she joined the ranks of students enrolling in Temple University in Philadelphia Nursing School.
After completion of her course work at Temple, she began working at several healthcare facilities as an administrator and moved to Los Angeles, California, where she met and married Floyd Grayson Smith (her husband for 50 years). From that union one son, David Smith, was born. David was the joy of his mother and father's life.
Peggy loved the Lord and gospel singing. She would turn the radio to gospel stations and sing along with the artist. She was a member of West Angeles Church of God in Christ for many years before relocating to Pooler.
Peggy leaves to mourn her passing one son, David Smith of Los Angeles; one brother, Gregory Mitchell of West Palm Beach, FL; three sisters, Phyllis McCloud of Pooler, Fredricka Williams (Randall) of Port St Lucie, FL, Janis Johns (Roger) of Woodstock, GA; one brother-in-law; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and special friends, Gladys Finny, Billy Ruth Holt, Dr. Patricia Juarez, and a friend of over 70 years, Daisy Pryor.
Thanks to Karen Dickerson for the help and devotion in assisting with Peggy's care.
