James Calvin Barrett, Sr., 60, of Midway, Georgia, departed this life on Wednesday, December 12, 2018. J.C., as he was affectionately known, was born to loving parents, the late Willie Barrett, Sr. and Elizabeth Frasier Barrett. He was the youngest of six children raised in the McIntosh, Georgia community. His parents, his son Tally "Creamy" Barrett along with his sister Ellouise P. Barrett and brother Willie Barrett, Jr. preceded him in death.

At an early age, J.C. attended and was baptized at Zion Temple Holiness Church. He later joined St. Peter's A.M.E. Church. One glorious day, J.C. rededicated his life back to the Lord; he would later move his membership to Solomon Temple Holiness Church. J.C. received his education from the Liberty County School System and graduated from Bradwell Institute with his beloved class of 1976.

J.C. was not afraid to use his God given talents. His mechanical skills developed at the old George Williams Chevrolet dealership in Hinesville; from there he would continue to learn his trade working as a mechanic for companies such as Arotek and Eagle Support Services. He was employed with Vanquish Worldwide on Ft. Stewart, Ga. J.C. developed a love for cooking and excelled in his craft as a Pitmaster. He took great pride in preparing and giving meals to seniors and those in need in the community. He became an entrepreneur by operating and owning several small businesses: J&J Auto Repair, Certified Auto Repair Shop, the Wild Boar BBQ, and JC's Bar-B-Que Pit.

J.C. leaves to mourn his passing and to cherish his memories: one daughter, Christina (Demetrius) of Atlanta, Ga.; seven sons: James Calvin, Jr. of Hinesville, Ga., Shon (Taneka) of Savannah, Ga., James D. "380" (Karla) of Atlanta, Ga., Damien of Statesboro, Ga., Jeremy (Yolanda) of Ft. Hood, Texas, Chris and Da'Jon of Midway, Ga.; two brothers: Richard L. (Priscilla) and Troy L. Barrett both of Richmond, Va.; one sister, Florence Barrett of Midway, Ga.; 18 grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Doris Barrett; a dear friend, Melissa Ann Miller, and a host of grand nieces and nephews, friends, and other relatives.
